It’s almost Easter. And once again, families across the nation are looking forward to the many traditions that take place during the spring holiday. Egg painting, chocolate, bunnies, and egg hunting will be happening in homes everywhere. But Easter is a worldwide holiday, and not everyone celebrates in the same fashion as the U.S.
When it comes to the rest of the world, not all countries share our love of cocoa and bunny costumes. In fact, many of them have their own weird and wonderful Easter traditions.
Sergei Tabakov, a tobacco technologist who recently returned from Papua New Guinea and works for the Russian Tobacco Factory Co. Ltd. told an interesting story.
Trees outside houses of worship are decorated with packets of tobacco and cigarettes, which are then given to the congregation after Easter services. The practice apparently has a very positive effect on attendance at church!
Nothing Like a Good Easter Cigarette – Chocolate is not the item of choice for Easter in Papua New Guinea. Instead, tobacco is the thing. Churches and trees are decorated with cigarettes and tobacco. After Easter Sunday church services, expect to be handed some smokes as the whole congregation lights up together.
In U.S., too, there are interesting traditions for Easter. For example, Easter egg crafts with tobacco leaf.
